Mechanical Technician
Who are we:
Thames Water is the UK’s largest water and wastewater company. We make a daily difference to millions of customers by supplying 2.7 billion litres of world-class water to around 10 million homes. We are an essential service and have operated throughout the Covid19 pandemic.
The Role:
- Investigating plant failures and carrying out repairs as quickly and efficiently as possible in order to avoid interruptions to the process. This may involve investigating and diagnosing complex faults and carrying out repairs during incidents
- Providing technical advice to the wider team, referring to up-to-date technical knowledge, and providing training or support for technical trainees if required
- Carrying out scheduled planned maintenance work on mechanical equipment in compliance with company standards and procedures in order to improve plant resilience
- Examples of equipment that you will be working on will be motors, gearboxes, various pumps and associated control gears
- Reviewing of RAMS (Risk assessment/ Method statement)
- Participate in a 24/7 out of hour’s standby rota will be required following the relevant training
Skills & Experience:
- You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical systems. With NVQ or C&G level 3 in mechanical engineering with an upskill qualification in mechanical NVQ2/3 is essential
- Ideally, you will have been upskilled with a mechanical qualification to allow inspecting, maintaining, fault diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical plant equipment in a safe and efficient manner
- Experience working on large industrial plant equipment including various pumps within the utilities industry would be beneficial
- Due to the nature of this role, domestic experience is not Suitable
- Knowledge and awareness of health and safety issues are essential
- Participation in a 24/7 out of hours’ standby rota will be required after a suitable period of training and assessment
- A valid driving licence is essential and all necessary equipment such as vehicle and tools are provided

- Deliver exceptional service through an enthusiastic and positive approach, taking accountability for your role while working accurately and flexibly within a busy team

- Proactive – take the lead on recommendations and improvements around site and communicate effectively
