Senior Software Engineer
Job Purpose:
IRIS Software Group is the largest privately held software company in the UK, 3rd largest in Europe, and ranked at top 100 in the Sunday Times Grant Thornton Top Track 250.
This is a Senior Software Engineer role which is hands-on, but with added responsibility of mentoring and coaching team members as well as taking project responsibility. So, whilst there is no direct management experience needed, a strong collaborative mindset with a passion for developing people, certainly is required. As our ideal candidate you will be able to demonstrate a strong background in shipping quality software for enterprise level platforms – within a fast-paced Agile environment, focusing on continuous delivery and improvement.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain legacy code, address tech debts and develop new features
- Determine operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development and proposed solutions
- Go the extra mile to take initiatives in improvements on all levels
- inspire and motivate others to act and embrace change
- Work closely with other engineers in the team to ensure prompt completion of sprint goals.
- Work with stakeholders across IRIS Group to agree on technical direction.
- Mentor colleagues providing advice and guidance on best practice and development techniques.
- Continually learning and advising on new approaches or solutions.
- Work closely with Dev Operations to ensure high standards of delivery.
- Where necessary creating detailed design documentation and presenting it to a wide range of audiences.
Education:
- Significant experience as a software engineer shipping enterprise level solutions
Experience:
- Advanced skills in C# .net framework
- Strong knowledge of CI/CD systems & pipelines (i.e., Azure DevOps, Team City and Octopus Deploy)
- Experience designing or implementing solutions for performance and scale
- Strong back-end and Database skills (SQL, NoSql)
- Experience mentoring and leading technical sessions
- Experience of APIs and Web services
- .net core or .net 5
- Experience working with legacy technologies (Classic ASP) and migrating to more modern tech stacks
- Understanding of Micro service architectures, Component based development or domain driven development
